The main environmental factor contributing to skin cancer is excessive exposure to ultraviolet (UV) radiation from the sun or tanning beds. Other factors include ozone layer depletion, which increases UV exposure, and exposure to harmful chemicals such as arsenic or coal tar. Living in sunny or high-altitude regions can also raise the risk of developing skin cancer over time.
